Charities we support22/12/2011
The organisers have decided that proceeds from the 2012 event will be used to make contributions to three charities which need to expand their activities in the Stratford area as times get harder. The charities are Lifespace which mentors young people with home and other problems, ESH which provides help in coping with and overcoming drug addiction and the Samaritans who are having to deal with increasing numbers of text messages from disturbed young people.

The 2012 Shakespeare Marathon and Half Marathon opened for entry on Tuesday, 27 September 2011. This is the major fund raising event for the charities supported by the Rotary Club of Stratford upon Avon and the entry fee reflects this. The charities we support will be shown on the Home page or the website and under News in due course. News will be updated regularly.

To enter go to the Entry page on this site and click the link to Runners World

When you enter, you will receive confirmation of your entry from Runners World. You will be able to double check that your name is on the list by going to FR Systems website.

We have an entry of around 1400 for the Full Marathon and 2300 for the Half Marathon although we may vary these figures as we get nearer to our closing date of 1 March 2012 but still maintaining a total of 3700 entries. For the 2011 race, we received our entry total around the end of February. You would therefore be wise to enter early to avoid being disappointed. You should note that if you decide to cancel for any reason, we do not give refunds.

Before you sign up for the race, it is essential that you read the Event page of this website including the link from that page to Essential Notes for Runners. You will also find it helpful to read the FAQ page,

The Contact page of this site which provides a service to answer general questions including those about transferring your entry to another person, will open in about 6 weeks from now. (Now open) You will find however that most of your questions are covered under the FAQ page.

Whilst runners take part in the race at their own risk, the organisers always consider what extra steps might be taken to improve safety. And for next year we have taken further precautions for your benefit by employing the advice and assistance of Midlands Traffic Management Ltd.
